HARRISBURG, PA - On Monday, May 23, 2022, The Plymouth Whitemarsh High School girls basketball team was presented with citations and met with the Governor and other State Elected Officials for a group photo. The girls visited the chambers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives as well while visiting Harrisburg.
The state-level recognition comes after the undefeated team brought home the PIAA 6A Championship this past March. The team made school history with its first state title, and also won the Suburban One League Liberty Division, the Suburban One League, and PIAA District One titles. Their final game against the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils was the highest attended of this year’s state title games. The girls were escorted home following the game by a parade of local first responders and exited the bus to a crowd of well-wishers who greeted them with applause, signs, and smiles.
Along with being recognized at the state level, the Lady Colonials were also guests of honor at the May 19 Colonial School District Board of Directors meeting. Varsity Assistant Coach T.J. DeLucia introduced the team and shared highlights of the past season that included all of the records the team set over its season, which included winning 31 of 34 games by double digits and is ranked 23rd in the nation by MaxPreps.
“We have often been asked as coaches what set this team apart, and the answer is balance. There is no weak link in this team,” said Coach DeLucia. “Their commitment to team play, team offense, team defense, and playing for one another was unmatched and will serve as an example for generations to come.”
The students received certificates and a standing ovation at the meeting.
